Welcome back to The 1982-83 O-Pee-Chee Dating Game, where we'll randomly select three eligible bachelors from the set and you, the reader, will choose which one wins that date with a special lady. How do we know they're bachelors? Why, it says so right on the back of their hockey cards, that's how!

Previous episodes are available here.

The big winner of episode 14 was Paul Reinhart.

Now, let's start the 15th round and introduce the bachelors chosen by the randomizer! [APPLAUSE]

Bachelor number 1: Left wing from the Buffalo Sabres, Lindy Ruff
Bachelor number 2: Right wing from the Edmonton Oilers, Dave Lumley
Bachelor number 3: Right wing from the St. Louis Blues, Joe Mullen

It's winger week here on the O-Pee-Chee dating game! Let's find out more about these gents from the back of their cards.

Not many hobbies listed this round, but some interesting information nonetheless. Okay folks, who wins the date with a nice young lady?

Bachelor number 1: Lindy Ruff, who scored his first NHL goal in his very first NHL game.

Bachelor number 2: Dave Lumley, travel enthusiast.

Bachelor number 3: Rookie Joe Mullen, who has good balance and good hands.

  1. Mullen is a no brainer. If he can handle the puck, he can handle anything.

    1. Example given: If our nice young lady in this week's episode enjoys dancing, then Mullen's good hands and good balance will come in handy.

  2. I'm just intrigued that "is a bachelor" is translated as "is not married" on Lumley's card, but not the others. Also that the French word for "single" is "célibataire", which has interesting connotations to English speakers. But, yeah, Mullen. Not only can he handle things, but he has good balance--you need a good balance in your life. And, actually, he went on to a good career and he won two Lady Bing trophies, so, yeah, he probably was a pretty good guy actually.

    1. Good observation, Brett! I think Julie from A Cracked Bat said something similar about the translations a while back. Could "is not married" have meant that Lumley was dating a nice young lady at the time, while "single" meant "eligible bachelor"?

As for Mr. Mullen, yes, the Lady Byng trophies will go over well with our nice young lady this week. I'll add that Mullen would go on to win three Stanley Cups and be elected into the Hall of Fame. Not too shabby there!

  3. Yeah, Mullen gets my vote for the reasons already mentioned.

  4. Gotta go with Lindy Ruff. He has the penalty minutes to back up his name.
